Ball won't eat

I've had this snake 12 years and he has always been an eager eater. The last 6 months he has only eaten once! He is active, always crawling around at night but when I put him in with a rat he simply looks the other direction, or tonight he crawled right over the rat! ( this is a live rat) I'm not overly worried, he acts healthy and has only lost a little girth. I would like to know if anyone's seen anything like this... Because in the 12 years I've owned him I've never seen this.

Re: Ball won't eat

what kind of snake is it? Has anything else changed recently (new cage, new heat source, new water dish, etc?)?

From the title of the post and the part of the forum am guessing its a royal/Ball python

Double and triple check sll husbandry, especially if something has changed in there.

Has it ever done something similar even for a shorter amount of time?

Re: Ball won't eat

It has went off feed in the winter months before. It's June now.. Just a little strange I thought. I had switched his cage but he wouldn't eat I put him back in the aquarium style cage. He ate right away the next time I fed him, but that has been several months ago now.

It's late breeding season. He just doesn't want to eat. He should kick back in soon enough.
