Re: Morzan and Homura

So far everything is going well with Morzan, and judging by this photo he may be going into shed. He's taken 3 pinkies in a row so far, and I plan on giving him 1-2 more feedings at this size before stepping him up.

Last time I fed Homura, I thought she was going into shed because she wasn't as enthusiastic about food as usual, which is a sure sign she's shedding based of previous shed cycles. But, I never saw her go blue so I thought I was wrong. Nope! Right after feeding her today (yesterday), she left me a nice gnarly rainbow poop, and a shed right next to it, that I found when I got off work.

Re: Morzan and Homura

In the photo I posted above, I had a sneaky suspicion a shed cycle was coming on, and I was right! He went blue a few days later, and he's now starting to exit his blue phase. Hopefully I can get some pics of Homura later today, if we aren't out all day again.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Homura after a nice meal.

So far, Morzan has taken ~4 meals without a regurge, so I'm going to step him up to 3 gram fuzzies and see how does. He continues to be active, I had him out to switch him to Sanji's old tub, and he was just zooming around. Actually crawling around, I really hope this means he has more energy. He's always just sat in one place, hardly moving around when I handled him.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Tomorrow is Morzan's next feeding day, I'll be trying him on a 3 gram fuzzy mouse. He also seems to have gone back to being concave from a month of eating pinkies. I had him out to dampen his bedding, and took the opportunity to provide visuals of what I'm talking about. The part towards his tail is so caved in I'm getting so worried about him, it really sucks having to go as slow as I am with his food because I just want him to get up to a healthy weight. He sheds every month and poops nicely, but he lost 3 grams from all this time eating pinkies and the regurge, and he worries me so much.

Homura on the other hand continues to grow well, and has put on 51 grams since getting her in March, and is sitting at 175 grams. She'll probably be ready for medium adult mice really soon.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Love the contrast between them, particularly the bright oranges on Homura.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Has anyone suggested you sprinkle a reptile digestive aid on Morzan's meals? It might help.

Yup, if you read earlier on in the thread he's been having all his meals thus far coated in ReptiBark. You commented about it, too, but I think you may have lost track (it's baby season so I'm sure you've got more important stuff on your mind).

Uh...did you comment on the wrong thread? I don't own a single rescue.

I also like how I said ReptiBark instead of ReptiBAC. lmao You can see my mind isn't always in the best of places.

Hey, who needs a social life when you have heaping piles of snake babies?

Re: Morzan and Homura

Homura continues to do well and grow! Soon enough she should be large enough for medium mice! My mice had a surprise litter (apparently missexed a few), so I plan on growing these ones up to medium adult mouse size for her, rather than jumbos.

She's still just as bright as the day she got here, so hopefully she doesn't dull out too much as an adult! She'll be 15 months old at end of the month.

Morzan continues to do about the same. Last Tues I attempted to feed him, he took and ate his 3 gram fuzzy like normal, but regurged later that day. I had suspected he was going into shed, but with him losing weight I didn't want to wait the 2+ weeks it would take for him to finish his shed cycle. If that was the cause, then clearly I have no choice. He does not have the energy to keep up with a shed cycle and digesting a meal. I will offer him another 3 gram fuzzy when he's done shedding, and if he continues to keep his next few meals down I'll move him to a 6 day schedule and potentially a 5 day schedule eventually. I'm worried he's not getting enough food eating these small meals spaced a full week apart, but I still have to go slow with him. It's amazing he still manages to shed every month eating the way he does.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Just gorgeous BSG. I thought (acne I've told my wife) that I'd be able to stop at 3 or 4 snakes but then people keep reminding me what I'd be missing out on.

Now I'm not saying I'll reach the lofty numbers some of the others on here have but I think 8-10 is possibly a more realistic expectation!

Re: Morzan and Homura

Most times a snake will undergo multiple sheds if they are injured and or unwell. Can you possibly get a stool sample analyzed?
