if its a tick and you don't want to risk the head getting stuck, try submerging that portion of your python in water, ticks usually release and float away. Rubbing alcohol works well too but I'm not 100% sure that's snake-safe (don't know why it wouldn't be but better safe than sorry).

Re: humidity, get a tub, they hold humidity much better.
