I totally agree Lanky. It is getting harder and harder to ignore the REALLY harsh and rather close minded comments that are flying around. I mean "we" are driving people away by these rude comments! Here is a guy that has been wandering around the site and never posted...what happens when he decides to post for the first time? He gets yelled at for the snakes he decides to have.

To me he seemed like a pretty competent person from the different posts he made throughout the thread. And yet no matter what he did he still got blown down. It just isn't fair to these new people to meet such harsh feedback and responses right off the bat! I wouldn't be here anymore if I had been met with it.

And why should we have to put up with the rudeness and rather blunt way of putting things just because this is a public forum? Would we put up with it if someone started talking to us like that in real life? Especially from a complete stranger.

Can you tell this really pisses me off Lanky?

no. but it is typical that ANY irresponsible animal keeper gets questioned as to acts of carelessness that could put people's lives in danger. why do you not agree?

that is your choice.

please show me where anyone was abused. if anyone was 'abused' it was myself for having obscene language flung at me. if he had stated his case like an adult, there wouldn't have been such an issue. the problem is - he had no valid case and he DIDN'T act like an adult.

lankyrob, do you think it's wise to come to a new forum, state you keep DEADLY reptiles, then proceed to publicly state that you have little to no experience, you had to have some indian guy come over to your house to show you how to 'handle' them, then comment that you're not afraid of your venomous snake. does that really sound like a responsible pet owner? or does it sound like someone who could use a little more education? the answer is obvious.

Hello and Welcome! Beautiful carpet python. I love to see pictures of you other snakes. And please don't let you know who scare you off. There's actually a lot of nice helpful people here. Sorry to hear about our RTB.

please quote where anyone got 'yelled' at. thank you.

he did not get 'yelled' at for the snakes he decides to have. if that is all you got from the conversation, then you weren't paying attention.

yes, the cursing and non-logical justification really made him sound like a genius.

if i'm being completely honest here - he sounded like an idiot. have you ever owned anything that could kill someone?

you should be pissed off. irresponsible pet owners piss me off as well. especially those who do not respect what they have.

this is not true at all and in the slightest, take for example the british adder, that is venomous but can it cause death via its bite......no it cant, the venom is not deadly as a general term, the venom is only deadly if someone is allergic to it as with western hognose and there are some other venomous snakes that i can mention aswell but the fact is im not going to as theres no point.

as for never needing to handle a hot, maybe not in captivity but there maybe a day when your in another country where they have venomous snakes such as cobras or others for that matter, and if sed snake goes near a child, your telling me that if handling the snake can stop a child from dieing, im sorry but if anyday i needed to put myself between my child and a hot, then i would without hesitation and i would try to get that snake as far away from my child as possible and if that means handling it, then so be it

Erm yes it can if you are allergic. As you yourself said. So yes, this snake can kill. So the Adder, a venemous snake CAN cause death.

SV didn't say their bite can kill, he said they can CAUSE death!

exactly. and for those who think i am 'nit picking,' i'm not. a lot of deaths from snake bites (yes, even copperheads) are actually from anaphylactic shock, allergic reactions to venom or antivenin, heart attacks, etc.

i tried to use a bullet analogy, but that went way over the head's of some people here. point is - a venomous snake is a venomous snake. it doesn't matter how toxic its venom is, bites from ALL venomous snakes can lead to death.

so can every animal for that matter, an allergic reaction can kill no matter what animal caused it, my point was that we shouldnt condemn venous snakes becoz they could cause death as so can every other snake and animal.

Wow, I didn't know that. So if someone is allergic to dog hair for example and they stroke a dog and have an allergic reaction they could die?

Guess you learn something new everyday.

So, how could my cornsnake kill me, what would I have to be allergic to that would cause death?

Anyway, back on topic, I forget to say to the OP, welcome to the forum

don't let the idiots make you leave the forum rob as far as i can see its just 1 member and his sheep like follower that seem to think they can come on here and badger folk into their way opf thinking with agressive argumentative posts that are only possible because they twist peoples words

hell the two of them tried to pull me up on the computer thread for NOT USING ENOUGH COMA'S

just ignore them mate they really are NOT worth the effort

to the op
you are NOT 1 of the 2 people i mention

cheers shaun

go look at the thread on the brb changing colour at night and you will see the same guy trying to pull me up over a lot of crap

then go to the computer thread and you will see the same guy and his sheep like follower pulling me up for not using enough coma's

yet if you look at the quality of their posts/threads it becomes apparant quite quickly that these folk seem to be more interested in petty reactions than discussing reptiles like educated people

i would be dissapointed in any regular on here that let them put you off coming on here.(aimed at everyone not any 1 member)

we have a good pollite helpfull community on here please don't let a few newbie's spoil it for others that may want to join and seek fellow like minded people

cheers shaun
