Re: New Black Racer Pics!!
I can imagine, they hit me like crazy.lol. Can't wait to see a video. They're one of my favorite snake to happen upon, always a good catch. Ill have to dig around for a pic of one I caught a few years back that had to be just about 7 feet.

Re: New Black Racer Pics!!
I was bitten by one Black Racer on one grab more than all other snake bites combined over my years in the hobby LOL. Strike after strike after strike. It was impressive, the tenacity of that little snake.

That would be a black rat snake if it was anywhere near seven feet.
Black racers do not do well in captivity. Whereas a king snake or rat snake might live 20 years in captivity - much longer than in the wild - a black racer will live two years or less in captivity. They will often cover two MILES in one day in the wild.
I caught one last year that was basking in the middle of a lightly traveled road. I was bitten twice. I took it home to show someone but let it go in the yard. A beautiful snake.
If you love something let it go.

Re: New Black Racer Pics!!
Haha, he's quite the feisty little bugger. We see black racers around here occasionally. They are ridiculously fast and have no problem letting you know they don't want to be bothered lol.

I'd think the samething if someone told me they caught a nearly 7 foot racer. But it was a racer. The 3 main snakes I find are black rats, black racers, and copperheads. So I'm plenty familiar with the differences. Let me find the pic, I gotta dig out some old cell phones.

Oh wow, Toby is stunning! I love his attitude... I am perfectly fine with "display only animals" and I could stare at a snake like Toby all day long!

Re: New Black Racer Pics!!
I use black racers and coach whips as part of my venomous training teaching. Because they are fast and nasty, my students have to handle them without protection and not get bit. Once you master that, most venomous snakes are nothing in comparison.

Re: New Black Racer Pics!!
The black racers are all over the place where I live. I see at least one every day. Sometimes I will see two or three different snakes in the same day and it's pretty fun to watch them. On Sunday I spent a good 10 minutes following one around as it was hunting. Then I went out by the pool and almost stepped on one that was basking. I'd probably never own one because of their temperament(I want a snake that can tolerate handling), but they're enjoyable snakes to come across in the wild.
