Re: Morzan and Homura

Some do, some do not. Unfortunately, this is one of those items where only time will tell. Wish I had a better answer!

That's fine, I was just curious. It will be a lot easier to feed him appropriate meals as he gets bigger, but it's so easy to misjudge the size of such small mice and rats. I'll probably stick to smaller meals regardless, I'm just worried about accidentally grabbing a hopper when I needed a fuzzy....the size difference isn't that big visually. Guess I'll just mark the bags "fuzzy - Morzan." haha Until he gets big enough to move up.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Marking is good. ;-) I always round to the small side for any snake that has had regurg issues.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Homura shed today! I took some outdoor photos to capture her colors better, and then offered her a mouse. I gave her one of the mice I raised myself, forgetting that I'd grown them to small adult mouse size before culling them...but, she's got more girth than Sanji, so the bulge wasn't all that bad despite her being smaller than him. I also think they're a bit smaller in size than the small adult mice I have from Big Cheese despite being the same weight....Next time she'll get a hopper.

I also changed out Morzan and Homura's bedding completely, so I snapped a few photos of my other ball python. :P I've got two ball pythons that aren't even ball pythons!

I found her like this when I went in to change her bedding...I was looking around and didn't see her body peeking out from the moss and I was like "Oh no she's gotten out where is she...wait...what's that weird blob in the corner of my vision? Oh my gosh, not again."

I love the weird Roman-nosed dog-faces hypos have, I wish she'd sit still long enough for me to get a good close up. lol She's a lot more active than Sanji or Morzan, and hasn't balled up on me yet.

Grabbing the mouse. She got it down really quickly, so it definitely wasn't a chore. By the time I sat down, transferred the photos off the card, and went and checked up on her, she'd already finished the mouse and was crawling off. Couldn't have been more than 2-3 minutes.

And Morzan balling up defensively when I took him out. Sorry little buddy, but you have to come out if I'm going to give you new bedding! I've decided to go full moss, because the paper towel gets gross quickly and molds.

Even after I put him in his tub, he just sat there balled up. 10 minutes later, he was still balled up in the middle of his tub. Silly thing.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Oh my, they are gorgeous! Makes me want to take my BRB out, but it's feeding day so I'll have to pass haha.

So around 18 months they have their adult coloration? My Xango is 9 months now so he's halfway there.

Yup, so I hear. These two are around the same age as Xango, so they'll probably change a lot in the next 9 months or so. Sanji pretty much looked like he does now at around 9-10 months, but his color has become a bit more solid, with his saddles standing out less, and his reddish color has gone up and down between leaning towards red or brown each shed. But his changes should be smaller and more stable now, at 19 months.

Between 18 and 30. Some develop more slowly. I've even had some experience a "dip" in attractiveness as juveniles before going on to become splendid adults.

Some snakes just change forever, too. My ball python will be 10 this year, and it seems like he looks vastly different after some sheds. I've had times where he was a deep, dark chocolate color, times he's been a light tan color, and once where he almost looked axanthic. But Sanji's been staying pretty steady lately, leaning slightly more towards red, but he could still surprise me and change even more as he gets older. He may not be high red, but he's still got a very lovely reddish color, that I hope he'll either keep or improve on in the future.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what to name them at first, but then those names just popped into my head.

Morzan ate his second meal a few days ago, this time a proper-sized fuzzy. He's keeping it down and I haven't found any regurges, so I think the prey size is good! I'm hoping to eventually get some meat on his bones, his food sensitivity has left him quite the lean little boa.

Homura left me a little present today as well, I swear rainbows have the nastiest poops. lol They don't always smell (if I catch them early enough: wet moss + warm flex watt + time = a smelly poop) and aren't runny, but they look very odd. All three of my rainbows poop the same sort of turds, so I'm pretty sure it isn't a health issue, and I've posted similar poops on here and got the "normal card." Just quite a bit different from the others.

He took the mouse with the gentlest little strike, and didn't make a sound as opposed to the clumsy clunk-clunk-thwap the other snakes make.

Re: Morzan and Homura

Had Morzan out for a bit of handling the other night, I kept it short and sweet to be gentle on him, only had him out maybe 10 minutes. He gave me the stink eye the whole time, but he appears to be over his striking mood. lol

That stink eye I was talking about.

The bulge isn't noticeable in pictures on Day 3, but in person it was a small bulge, and there's been no regurges, so whew! I can breathe a sigh of relief.

Re: Morzan and Homura

I finally got my Canon Rebel t3i, so here are some photos I took of these two the other day!

I went to get Homura out, and she snapped at me! I must have really surprised her, because that's the first time she's done this. She didn't connect, and once I got her belly on a finger she was back to normal.

I've had to put her back on paper towels for the time being, with just a bit of moss bunched up under one hide. I'm going to drill a few more holes down near the bottom to aid in air flow, because I went to get her out this weekend and her moss was covered in white! I had taken her out the day before without a sign of mold anywhere...picking up the moss sent a thick cloud of spores everywhere....

SOOO yeah, I'm hoping adding air flow near the level of the moss will keep that from happening again. She's had two bedding changes since I got her, but I've never seen her's mold like this....All the water from the moss seemed to just gather in a pool on the bottom of the tub instead of evaporating. Very strange, the same problems aren't happening in Sanji's or Morzan's tub, and they've got about the same amount of ventilation.

I don't spray their bedding, I drop the moss in a bucket of water, pick it up and squeeze it until no more water comes out, and put it back in. I've found the color drains away and the moss goes brown if I just spray it.

She's a chubby girl, easily has the biggest girth out of the three of them. Hasn't turned down a meal yet, and I was told she's a pig. You can certainly tell!

And these are the ones from today (well yesterday now).

She's got pretty steely-blue eyes.

She's also very strange to handle. She doesn't really grab onto me like the other two rainbows and my boa constrictors, and when she does grip, her grip is weak. Not sure if that's because she doesn't feel the need to, or because of her chubbiness, or just because she still needs to get the hang of holding on. I'm always feeling like she's gonna fall, and she just lets her body loosely hang off my hands and doesn't always try to grab anything when she does start to fall, that's all on me.

Here she is actually gripping me. haha

Re: Morzan and Homura

And a few of Morzan from Sunday. He's the skinniest of the three.

His feeding day is later today, so I probably won't be handling him until Thursday, then this Friday I leave for Atlanta/Lawrenceville! I've got a friend coming along this time, and she's been wanting to meet the snakes, so we'll stop by here before heading out.
