Re: Best way to tame JCP
Snake hooks do not need to be hooks at all. You need a stick you can touch your snake with to let them know it's not feeding time. Some people even use a paper towel roll.

How far have people gone in researching techniques to get snakes out of feeding mode, why can't you just 'glove train' him that every time you throw a cotton glove at his face he goes out of feeding mode or something? Also I guess I was just thinking, if your going to keep snakes, and pick some of them up with your hook, might as well get something that you don't think will bend/snap or not be able to support the weight. I still like my golf putter idea :P

Re: Best way to tame JCP
Rofl golf putter.. maybe.. Maybe a bigger snake. No nvm no golf putter The snake is only 20 inches or so long. this will work fine till weekend im sure lol. She does not strike at it now, Just lets me pick her up and all is well. I just like the hook. Seems to aggravate her far less than the hand or glove. She becomes very defensive when I use my hand to reach in and get her weather gloved or not. With hook... No problems
and Terranaut I do this as well, But the hook is helpful lol
Thank you all for the helpful info.... even the golf putter

Smy, feel free to come to my house, reach in with a glove and break my scrubbed feed response.
In less then a second she's going to grab you and drag you into the cage...

No no no no, I said "throw" a glove at his face. Is it really as far fetched as it sounds? Just keep throwing a glove at him, then do your hooking, and after a while, see what happens minus the hook part...Science experiment.

Re: Best way to tame JCP
Ifi threw something at my retic he would probably eat it, any fast movement would get struck at, feed mode or not!

Re: Best way to tame JCP
I bought a $7 roller brush from Lowe's that is about 2 feet long made of a solid piece of metal. For $7, I probably even beat the coat-hanger idea from a cost-effective standpoint, considering the time you had to spend making it.
Shop WHIZZ 6-in Interior Wall Roller Long Handle at Lowes.com
And I picked up a 20lb. weight with it as a test. It definitely bent with the weight, but it held it just fine, so I know it's nice and sturdy. Just take the actual roller brush portion off and voila.

Re: Best way to tame JCP
You don't use hooks to pick up snakes,,. Again... If you want me to explain and demonstrate hook training to you, message me on Skype... Stephan bakir. I'll explain it to you
