I am also afraid of pedophiles and the like. But, I personally do not believe things were all that safe in the 60's, 70's, and 80's either. You just didn't hear about every little case back then. Things have always been bad. But no one, child or adult, can spend their life in a prison of fear. We need to educate our children, but also allow them to live, play, and be kids.

Oh man does this post bring back memories! My mom inherited a balsa wood paddle that she found was better than wearing out her spoons. Let me tell you by the time I was a teenager I was very polite and semi well behaved (I say semi because one thing I learned was better ways to avoid getting caught). I'm still rather polite, but after being a security guard for a year and dealing with some of the finest specimens of humanity, my tolerance threshold is at the lowest point ever. When I was growing up, I didn't really pay too much attention to other kids. so I'm not 100% sure how they behaved - I just knew that if *I* misbehaved, my @ss was gonna hurt I got home!
