Katt,
Email Grant. He had a bunch of it at the last show making its debut in the reptile world As long as you don't coil the stuff it doesn't get very hot at all... didn't have a temp guage but it was probably no more than 95 I'd say (and that was in a room that was a zillion degrees...lol ), however I don't know how much that would change once its under a rubbermaid since we were just plugging it into the wall to see what the stuff was like. Smells like flowers...lol I know it comes in as little as 15 watts (if I remember correctly).

So where do you put it in a cage? On the back of the enclosure, under the substrate?

Thanks

ok well Look at it this way .. it really is a rope.. so the way I used it is simple..

took a router.. made chanels in the wood.. put the cable in it and silliconed it.. I doubled the cabel with an inch gap between the cable ... and the tupperwares simply slide on top of the wires.. I have pics in my gallery..

I set it up on a dimer as at full heat .. I am hittng 120 F .. I am using the 80 watt .. wich has about 8 feet of heatting I think..

I am also using it in my monitors cage.. simply stuck it inside the dirt... a little scattered arouns.. dirt is heated and a t comfy 88 ish temp.. I have no complaints..

As far as i know of .. Grant from PCPC is the only one to have it but If u look hard enough .. it is the same as the wires to heat piping and ****.. so technincally you should be able to find them in hardwarestore.. but I have never seen em'..

Thinking about it.. I really don't think its a great product for one cage.. or one enclosure.. great ofr racks or really large cages..

I have no idea how I would set it up in a cage but i woudl assume for arboreals u could se it up on the wall with a staple gun..

It does generate lots of heat but it not that hot to the toush.. so the animal could touch it with probably no harm..

I got some heat rope from www.portcreditpets.com and it's working great. I'm using it on metal wire racks. I'm using the 50W ones. I zig-zag it back and forth 4 times under rubbermaid containers, each around 1" apart. The temp is around 90*F for my leos. I use one rope for 4 tubs. I tried the 15W ones as well but they were too weak. They're expensive but I think it's worth it.

Hit the plumbing section at any Canadian Tire & you can buy various lengths of the stuff. I used it in my incubator last year with a "wafer" thermosat spliced in & it worked fine. I don't know if this is the exact same stuff you guys are talking about, but it is available everywhere & does the same thing more or less. Mark I.

Well, I'm finally starting on my cages today! As we speak hubby is putting in the groove with the router. Still lots of work to do on them. But I' m taking a few pics as it goes along so I can post them later. We are building 4 cages on top and the racks below. The entire unit is roughly 6x2x6. Cages on top will have heat lights and uv and the racks below will be heated with the heat rope I got from Grant. Can't wait till it's done!!

I bought 4 storage racks at Canadian Tire with 3 bins in each. They were onsale for 12.50. I am going to use them for my hatchling leo's next season.

I want to use heat rope on the bottom of each tub to effectively heat my bins. How do I go about doing this;

Do I apply the heat Rope in a zig zagged fashion at the bottom of each bin?
The Bins are 16.5x13.5, so I'm guessng I would want the heated surface area of a small UTH. How much heat Tape would be needed to acheive good heating on each?
Is it safe to use electrical tape to stick the rope directly to the bottom of the bin?

Here's the link to the bin. I am looking for Tips, Thanks
