I would not take that advice if I were you. First off it is the B.C.I that is 7-12 feet(depending on the sex) I have worked with enuf of them to know to know, anacondas hit the 23-26 foot mark and it is not unheard of a B.C.C reaching 15 feet and it is more commen then you think (hip).

I was not going to anwser this but in the lack of better judgement I am going to post a retort to you.I have yet to see a Bci hit 12 feet(tape measurements are usally 2 feet less than what we think the snake's length is)As I had stated in my previous post B.c.c will hit 12 feet (15 could be possable but very rare) the average female true red tail in captivity is usally some were around 8-10 feet,Yes condas can get to 23- 26 feet but once again that would be the extreme outside of the spectrum one would encounter as a keeper 18-20 foot average being more the norm once again.

You (Chondro Pytho) tell someone not to take my advice and a couple of paragraphs later say I am not one of the pretend herpers. You also said (I have worked with enuf of them to know to know) When I see a statement like that I fully understand the situation. It would seem that you have to tell all of us here how much experence you have with snakes(boids), do you feel you have to convince us of how much knowledge you have? Or is it that you have to convince yourself of what you know? If you must know I started keeping snakes the year you were born,So that would give me a certian level of experence.Sorry but I think you should know that.

Hey fire foz I have added you to im at your request so you can ask my advice when you have questions,Lookin foreward to chatting with you in the future about your boa purchace.

Chondro come to a Toronto reptile expo and we can continue this size conversation debate in person.

sorry but if anybody went to the salon des reptiles this weekend in montreal there was a 12 foot BCI there and that proves that they can get that size. I dont need to convince myself or anybody else that i have knowledge in large snakes, you just need to check my gallery to see that plus i have nothing to prove to anybody here. Just because you have a lot of years of experience, you never stated what you worked with. Plus someone could have 5 years of experince with Large Boids, and know nothing about cornsnakes and that can go both ways. If someone like you has like 20 years of experience with colubrids...doesnt mean you know anything more than the person with 5 years of keeping, studying and handling large boids.

The fact that i state that i have knowledge in snakes (large boids) is simply to inform the treadstarter and not to convince or brag to anybody. Just cause you read several thread where ive stated that doesnt mean the person who asks the question took the time to look at all the threads ive posted in.

Pretty much im just saying that my knowledge isnt made up. Just because you buy a boa(BCC) and its supposed to reach ten feet doesnt mean people shouldnt be aware that it could go ''out of the normal''.

whenI was 17 I got my first herp I was 18 I qualified to work in a zoo I am now 20 and raising 2 boas for breeding projects just so I can say i did it

So you have been keeping for 3 years I have benn keeping for 20
kings corns to start Boids at about 18 (I had garters galore from the time I was about 5 or so)so really I have been keeping some kind of snake or another for about 29 years.Like I said bring the boa to the expo in july and we will put a tape on her so you can prove to me how big she is I have a huge female (in Georgia usa) for a project with a friend I used to work with she measures 9 feet or is that 12 geewizz I better call Mike to make sure he would know exactly how long she is he keeps detailed records.
I got to go my friend is cuming over with a 10 foot corn snake he wans me to help him measure it just to be sure.

In your stumbling around I hope you do not awaken the dragon

...

Record length for a Bcc is 18.5 feet. Average? Ha ha, certainly not!! Average is around 9-11 feet for females in captivity, and a few feet less for males. AVERAGE does NOT mean that's what the snake is capable of. Its all the sizes added up and averaged out. It means that that is what the snake can be expected to get to under normal circumstances.

Bci adult females are usually 6-9 feet with exceptions. Keep in mind that these are the same species as Bcc for crying out loud. They can and will contain the genetics to get larger. Until they fully speciate (not in our great great etc etc etc grandchildren's lifetime), there will be big Bci's and small Bcc's. Genetics man. There's 8 foot-high people, but is that the norm?

Also, that 12 foot Bci you've seen; I'd be very very impressed if you could tell me exactly how you can be certain it's parents weren't Bci X Bcc crosses.

Boas rule!
