How big is the ball python? I would be slightly concerned with 1/2" holes and a baby ball python.

He's about 260 grams. I don't know is exact age. I don't know if you saw the picture, but he's can't stick his head out of the holes, or anything.

That is what i thought when i bought a second hand viv for my corns, it had some large screw holes in the side and there was no way a snake could fit out, until they both escaped

You are really at 51%? With the holes I made, it is at about 65% (at the lowest) - 75%.

Once the substrate completely dries out the humidity in my tubs will get to 50% as well. A few sprays and it will jump to 75 for days.

Like I said, the lid had been off for some cleaning a few minutes before I took the pic.
Keep in mind that I live in the desert and the relative humidity is very low here compared to where you live.....plus the A/C is on all the time, which dries the air even more. If I misted the substrate weekly, the humidity would stay in the 70% range all the time. Its presently sitting at 62% and I haven't misted the cage since her last shed over 2 weeks ago.

Oh, ok I wasn't saying that 51% is low, I was saying that mine is really high lol

I also wanted to mention that humidity in rack-tubs can be more difficult to control, in the summer i always like to use a ceiling fan in my snake room to circulate the air. Without the fan some tubs experience a 15-20% increase in humidity. I really do not know how many holes -no matter the size- would be necessary to bring that humidity down without the fan.
