The kinking or the bumps your seeing is a defensive thing. He does that and holds still sometimes he rattles his tail at me. He usually doesn't strike he is more of a run for the hills kind of guy. He will bite if I'm holding him and he feels that the "bonding" session needs to end...though he has gotten slightly more tolerant of handling. The kinking thing seems to be a common behavior in rat snakes.
