Enclosure question

Hey guys, been a while since Ive posted. But it is time to get my rainbow boa out of his tub and into more than likely his adult enclosure. Im going with constrictors northwest and going to heat with a rhp from reptile basics. But 2 quick questions.

The size of the enclosure. I got it down to a 4x2x14" or 4x2x18". He isnt always the most active from what Ive noticed him climbing maybe 1 time. So would a 14" tall be the better choice? The 14" is more in my budget but the 18" isnt out of it.

And has anyone used VE t-stats before? I see them on reptile basics and was curious about them if anyone has experience with them or if I should go with another brand? Thanks again guys.

Re: Enclosure question

I do not have any personal experience with rainbowboa's myself, however most of my adult snakes (retics and boa constrictors) stopped climbing after they gained more mass around 5 or 6 years of age. They would still crawl up a plateau or branch, but couldn't call it actively climbing anymore. So for the snake i don't think it would make that much of a difference.

What i would consider though, at 2f deep and 14' high the snake might be pretty hard to get out when its all the way in the back of the tub. I have that exact problem with my 4*2*15' quarantine tub, have to pull the snake towards the front before i can grab it. Either that or i have to lean in so far, that the snake has a great opportunity to try and grab my face. Also, the view is a lot better with some more height.

Re: Enclosure question

Good choice with CN! I don't keep rainbow boas but in my opinion 14" tall would work fine. I have 3 ap cages that are 15" tall that I keep a mbk, black milk and eastern king in. Ve is a very good brand along with Herpstat on high end. I use hydrofarm t-stats.

Re: Enclosure question

Thanks for the input guys! Think I'm gonna go with the 14" tall one and a VE t-stat. Lol Steve that's the same t-stats I currently use, the clicking wakes me up when I'm sleeping occasionally time for upgrades

Lol, I hear ya. I have 5 of them running rhp's. Luckily all the clicking is in my snake room.
