If you're planning on re-covering the inside of the cages as well as the outside, I would be very careful with contact paper. Snakes seem to have a knack for finding their way into sticky situations inside a cage. I would never advocate anything really sticky inside of a cage. There have been some real horror stories about snakes getting stuck to duct tape that was inside of the cage and seriously injuring themselves. Just a thought...

Contact paper is very safe when applied correctly, I use it in my cages as well as on my racks without any issues.
