Ball python...heating pad vs heat lamp?? Which one would be better??

Radiant heat panels and heat pads are better(more efficient) for ball python setups.

Are you using a glass tank with a screen top?

I think we are getting the glass with screen top. Havent purchased it yet. My boyfriend has heard you need to foil some of the screen so it can keep humidity and heat in?

Yes but even then it's a hassle.

I'd look into a real snake enclosure such as animal plastics, boa phile, constrictors northwest...etc.

Or you could get a tub. These setups are much better than glass tanks.

I have a king snake in a glass exo terra with a screen top and keeping humidity up is a real pain, I've been using a damp towel to cover a large part of the screen and misting regularly, but it takes a lot of diligence (I'm looking forward to getting him into a proper enclosure soon).

I've heard heat lamps dry out the air which makes it even more difficult to keep the humidity up.

I'm with you on getting a proper enclosure skulk. I really want the AP T10's for my kings. What kind of king do you have? I didn't think they had any special humidity requirements. I've even read that prolonged exposure to high humidity can cause respiratory issues for some kings.

Depends on what kind of king. Florida kingsnakes, easterns, speckled...etc come from environments where it can get pretty damn humid in the warmer months. Much more humid than in a cage heated with a lamp and screen top.

I'm actually not sure exactly what kind it is, I was mostly concerned about it as he just went through his first shed.

Do BP's bask in the wild, or lay on hot rocks to warm up? Or do they just get by on the ambient temperature of their native range?

When i barely got my BP i bought a heat lamp that was recommended by a pet store worker that was supposedly the one they use to bask. Big mistake. I took that day bulb out and purchased an infrared heat bulb. I've had my Bp for 7 years and I've never seen it bask under that heat lamp. I've heard people say they do and don't. But my little guy always prefers his heat mat.
