Is my kingsnake the right size for his age?

Q. Is my kingsnake the right size for his age?

My kingsnake, Gilly, arrived at the pet store 10/12, I presume as a hatchling. They began feeding him with cut up pinkies. I purchased him in 7/13 and he weighed 85g. He's now 219g and at least 32in. I bought 100 hoppers and he hasn't eaten them all yet, so I'm still feeding him f/t hoppers, about 2 per week. I have some pinkies that a friend gave me after her snake escaped, and I offered them last week with a hopper, to Gilly's enthusiastic approval. He got all strikey and active, ate 4 plus the hopper and was looking for more.

He's my first snake, and I'm really enjoying him. He's very docile and easy to keep; always eats and sheds completely.

Hopefully I attached this photo correctly.

Hey Sharon, welcome to the forum. That's one nice looking kingsnake you have. It seems like he should probably be eating larger prey though. I'm sure he can handle small, medium or maybe even large mice at that size.

I agree on the prey size.

he looks similar in size to my kings, both of which will be 3 this summer. My female weighed 300ish g last month. Mine are eating medium/large mice, every 10 days or so and backed off now that it is cold. Very handsome king!

Re: Is my kingsnake the right size for his age?

Thank you for the replies! I would have gone to a larger prey size, but I have a bunch of frozen hoppers left. I should have gotten a smaller quantity, but I didn't think he'd grow so fast! :-) Isn't it fine to finish them up before starting on a larger size? How many hoppers should I feed weekly?

I'm sure you can finish up the hoppers you have, it'll just take a couple of those to make a meal for him. Depending on how large the hoppers are I'd think 2-3 at a time should do the trick. I usually feed my snakes 10-15% of their body weight every 6 days.
