No, not directly. I have the power strip plugged into an extension cord. It is properly rated for what I am using it for.

that is really bad - you need to contact your local trading standards. in the meantime make sure all your fire alarms are in good working order.

problems with mains electricity appliances and power cables are becoming more and more frequent, as our money grabbing governments loosen controls over Chinese imports.

That is a good idea. It never occurred to me to contact them. Thanks for that.

Fire alarms are all in good working order. That is a huge fear of mine. I constantly get on the fiancée for leaving the damn curling irons and hairdryers plugged in.

This particular unit was manufactured in Taiwan. Go figure...

Taiwan have been under enormous pressure from Chinese exports, doesn't surprise me if standards are slipping in an attempt to stay in profit - also it could be that it was assembled in Taiwan, the plastic may not have been made there, or the terminals, its difficult to say for sure these days
