Is it possible to own a fox and a snake?
Once we move out of state, my husband and I really would like to get a fox. We've wanted one for a long time and it was no our list to join our family before I decided to get a snake. We just can't get one right now since they're not legal to own in South Carolina.
I've read on many fox breeders' websites and other fox-related websites that it is impossible to have a snake and a fox at the same time because the fox will never trust you.
Would it be possible, do you think, to fool the fox by washing up every time the snake is held or touched? I already keep the room where I have my snake and rodents closed up at all times.
I'm not sure if there are any fox owners here, but obviously there are snake owners so I figured I'd ask.

If what they say is true then the answer is no. It will pick up the smell from the house, clothing or whatever.

Re: Is it possible to own a fox and a snake?
i guess the fox people would have the last say/most experience in the matter; but lots of animals (non domestics included) get along fine with supposed 'predators'. People who have exotic parrots etc still have dogs and cats; the animals may not get along, and you would NEVER leave them unsupervised, but they can coexist in the same house in most cases :/
just seems weird to me that a) that many fox people would have tried/seen the interactions/issues with a snake and b) the reaction would be so overwhelming.

Re: Is it possible to own a fox and a snake?
Jeff Corwin owned both a fennec fox and snakes. Fox are tough to keep as pets. They smell terrible, red fox not as bad as some others. Keeping them indoors is also difficult as they will destroy everything in site. Outdoors you would need a pen with a steel mesh ground lining to prevent escape. They are cute little buggers.

We were thinking of a phase of red fox. Maybe I'll try contacting one of the fox breeders that says this.
I didn't know that Jeff Corwin had a fennec. That's cool.
