Any creative ideas for cool hides?

I have a young Cal King and a young MBK. I currently have the normal half log, paper towel rolls, flower pots and pet store hides in their vivs. Anybody know where I could find some more exotic hides? I saw one member on here that had lego hides in their tank, which I thought was pretty cool, but I'm not very good at building things

You can use pretty much anything, you just want to male sure it won't hurt the snake (I wouldn't use a soda can with sharp metal edges), and I prefer hides that you wouldn't have to destroy if you needed to remove the snake. Water proof is a plus as well... I prefer the nat ural look so I'm always grabbing bits of fallen trees etc.

Re: Any creative ideas for cool hides?

I tried stacking flat rocks for a hide, but it's a pain when cleaning. I like the idea of using plastic.

I make hides the same way I make foam/grout backgrounds. I also like the look of gourd birdhouses.

I made a small cave for my albino checkered garter with paper towel rolls. I'm about to remove it though, it's too much of a pain

You can get some pretty neat looking items at Goodwill, yardsales or flea markets. Baskets and crockery you can get for pennies. I saw someone use a clay planter made for strawberry plants. It gave the snake good climbing and hiding spots.

Re: Any creative ideas for cool hides?

I can't help but post here. My snake escaped and I found her in one of my old tennis shoes. I put it in her cage it's her favorite hide now. Plus it's pretty cool looking to see a snake coming out of a shoe- but maybe that's just me.

Anyway- they really do make good hides- they're insulated, totally safe, (unless you have really bad foot funk-lol.), and easy for the snake to get in and you to get it out of. You can decorate it whichever way you want with a Sharpie or you can go uptown and use a fashion statement high dollar shoooo.

Hmm, a birdhouse sounds very interesting.
