Did you add fresh dirt? When I added mine to the enclosure it was like 40 degrees on the surface of the dirt and took a few days to warm up completely. And the volume of dirt in mine is not nearly as much as yours, do you just throw it in over the old dirt or wait till it warms up ?

I put the dirt right in there, a few new inches of dirt (even if the dirt was "cool") is not really going to alter the core temps of such a large mass of dirt signifigantly while the new dirt warms up.
They were both out playing in the "cool" dirt within moments of my dumping it in there.

I think the species designed to eat mollusks and crustaceans would be more likely to have that capability, if you want to cover your finger in rat scent and let us know, I'd be curious to see the results. Just choose a pinky, you don't need 5 fingers really.

LOL but I would not give up my pinky as it's the only one that fits up my
nose
