I have wooden vivariums and the heat mat is inside but always sealed down under lino. the thermostat for some reason stopped turning off the mat when the temperature was reached. He's on a ceramic bulb set up now (guarded) which i've been meaning to do anyway
he seems to be calmer now and i'll just leave him be
