Viv backgrounds?

Awhile back I saw a temple themed Viv someone on here made, using styrofoam, it was beautiful. I was wondering if there is..I guess a limit to what you can do for backgrounds? I mean, do they need to stay as natural as possible or can they be anything?
I'm asking because I want to design something for my boyfriend's tank for what ever snake he brings home after the expo in Feb. And he mentioned that it'd be cute to do something Dr.Suess themed for my boy Suess, but I'm afraid that might be too un-natural.
But I don't know much about these things so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks!

Re: Viv backgrounds?

Make it look however you want. It is all a personal thing. If you want it pink with Green stripes and blue monkeys go for it, Have fun with it.

As long as you use the right stuff to make it the design doesn't matter.

Re: Viv backgrounds?

So the unnatural colors wouldn't stress out a ball python? That's all I'm worried about, I don't wanna freak him out. But if it doesn't matter well that's just super exciting

i dont think snakes can see colors like you or i do, I may be wrong and if i am someone please educate me id love to learn more about that aspect of snakes. As for backgrounds i personally go into photoshop and paint a background in 300dpi and go to a printer and have them print it out the custom size- then I laminate it- then put it between two THIN pieces of plexiglas then resin seal it shut. Each background is different and unique. You can do this too if you take a picture of something with a good camera. Then just take it to a professional printer and have a good looking one of a kind background.

Re: Viv backgrounds?

I don't see the colors affecting them at all. I know a lot of people use fish tank back drops and some of those have pretty intense colors on them. As long as your snake has the right husbandry it should be fine.

I completely forgot about snake's vision lol thank you for mentioning that. I plan to paint the background, but I hadn't thought to laminate it or put it between plexiglass, sounds like an excellent idea!

Re: Viv backgrounds?

As stated above, as long as you use the right materials you can do whatever you can dream up. I don't think bright colors would stress out a snake. I haven't heard of that happening before so I'd say your safe going bright. There are a few different ways to make backgrounds. If you haven't already, I'd recommend you look up the lizard landscapes website. There are a lot of good info on there.

Re: Viv backgrounds?

Only thing I would bring up is many believe that high-whites and brighter colors can make the snake feel less secure. For example, a white painted rack opposed to one of a darker color, some believe that the whites mimic light on the outside in the snake's sense. Making the snake believe it is not protected from all sides.

It's mostly theoretical though, I believe.

i can see how it would work like that. white reflects ANY light it gets while black blots it out
