i say an UTH (under tank heater) on a thermostat. Amazon.com: Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats: Patio, Lawn & Garden

that thermostat works awesome, i have 8 of them! use that on an UTH put underneath the glass on the warm side... just make sure the tank is not sitting directly on top of the uth, leave a gap for air flow.

Whateveer you use to heat it MUST have a thermostat.
