thats why i said rinse and repeat, you would have to do this a few times.
i have only had what i thought were mites 2 times on my ball pythons anyways the first time i used nix and it definitely worked, second time i was going to nix again but then a friend told me that it is harmful, and recommended ivory soap so i tried and it worked, that is my experience.
there are others who use and recommend ivory on the net, but i dont want to be the one who told yo to believe everything you read on the net.
now i do know that nix is bad for even humans, so im just saying that if you have the time there is a safer way to do it,
your snakes may not show any ill signs at first but who knows what they could later develop in life.
anyways this is getting off topic, use what you will,
edit: i guess i shouldnt have asked a question when im trying to not derail any further

Re: Scared for my boa
Sorry buti cant see how just treating the snake and not the enclosure would ever get rid of ALL the mites as they are continually layingg eggs in the enclosure.
How many times/how long did you rinse and repeat for before yours were clear?

obviously you have to clean the enclosure as well, i didnt realize i had to walk you thru it.
imo i dont care how safe people say it is, the fact is its active ingredient is a harmful neurotoxin and i will not have anything to do with it near my animals, and i will also let people know this info as well , its up to you what you want to use, ivory soap works, nix works , pam works they all work so now its up to you whether or not you care to expose yourself and your animals to it!
to each their own
ivory soap and water will do the job, what did the old timers do before permethrin?

I really hope you aren't the same person I'm thinking you are....
First off, sorry for the turn South.
For mites, old timers used vapona on top of enclosures at one point or even in small delis cut up and a couple holes in it placed IN the enclosure. Not everything they did, was done right.
Personally, I'm okay with Nix since it's used for your human head. Just make sure it's diluted properly.

Re: Scared for my boa
Soap and water will not kill the eggs and unless your drowning them will not kill the mites. The reason some put soap in the water when bathing a snake with mites it to reduce the miniscus(sp?) affect of the water which makes it near impossible for the mite to climb up your snake to safety. Nix is very safe when used the right way at the right mix. The dosage needed to eliminate the mites is quite safe for 99% of the sankes we own. PAM is also safe but more people seem to screw up with it than Nix. I have no idea why but it's true. Read lables and watch videos on youtube regarding the use of either of these and your good to go.
Again plain soap and water will not do the job.

Re: Scared for my boa
No offence but ivory soap can also harm your snake and still not kikl the mites.

Re: Scared for my boa
I found this: Understanding Insecticidal Soaps and Detergents - GreenMethods.com (As a note on the source before the question can be posed: "Dr. Raymond A. Cloyd is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in Ornamental Entomology and Integrated Pest Management for the Department of Entomology at Kansas State University (KSU).")
Of course, those aren't snake mites, just spider mites, aphids, psyllids, thrips, and green mites. I guess the only way to know for sure would be to try it.

Aww.. I was very hopeful for a full recovery. You had her doing so well it seemed. Sorry she took a turn for the worst but understand that you did all you could to better her.

Re: Scared for my boa
I am so very sorry to see your update. She seemed to be doing so much better under your care. You've given her so much more than most would, maybe the vet will have a trick or two up his sleeve.
