so a person/bird/or anything else cannot LOOK happy even though they are not?

They may not be the above emotions but they do /look/ on the same line as the emotions.

Anything can be shocked. That's not an emotion, just a response.

An open mouth =/= looking happy. Again, do we really want people thinking that? Also, again, you didn't say, "It looks like she's saying thank you (but I'm sure she's not actually)." You said she opened her mouth "as if to say thank you," which is very different.

"Thank you" isn't an emotion, but a verbal articulation of a higher through process, so your comparison is invalid and irrelevant.
