Funny things my snakes do
So my boas are a bit odd. My male hates mirrors and slithers to me like a bat out of hell if he sees "mirror boa". My female likes to sit in a box way too small but she loves it so much I would feel bad removing it, she is so large she lifts it up about 3 to 4 inches, all balled up and happy. Feeding my male has been a laugh and a half. I feed f/t because ive just not ever wanted to risk another live rat. There is a local rabbit breeder who sells the runts pretty cheep. Nice healthy rabbits just too small for the pet trade, or maybe their temperament isnt right.
Anyway, jerry rice likes to hug his food for about 30 mins before he eats it. Granted its already dead and he isnt doing the whole strike and wrap, I am unsure of why he does this, but all he does before each meal is hug it, as if it were a toy. Yesterday while feeding a dead new zealand to him he opened his mouth at the glass as if to say "I AM SO HAPPY THANK YOU". That face has been etched into my mind now so I just had to draw it. I know I saw a guy on here doing a calendar for a family member, and with Jerry's antics I am wondering if I shouldnt do a calendar myself of all the silly things he does.
I wonder if anyone else would be interested in a "silly things boas do" calendar.

I really hate to burst your bubble. But snakes are not people. Most of them lack the essential brain power for higher thought.
You can think what ever you like but what I wrote in blue is what is happening... not silly.. instinct.

Thats because he doesn't know what a mirror is. He thinks its another boa and would like to get away from it. Another Boa in close proximity means competition which equals defensiveness

Thats because she can feel all sides of the hide and is secure that nothing can get at her. This is not happy this is safe.

He is a constrictor is what they do.. constrict. regardless of if its dead its prey. Snakes are instinctual

Snakes yawn.

I dont understand why people cant just let things be, YES i know that snakes dont have "higher" brain function and do lack the capacity for emotions, does that mean i cant want to think things without being run into the mud? I feel like it is a dead horse but dang, everyone here is so upity. You cant be excited for anything without ruining the fun. Geeze.

We like to pass on proper information for those new to the hobby who read these forums without posting.
Everyone talks about how we need to educate the uneducated but then they wish we wouldn't correct the incorrect information. Can't do both.

Ok the, congratulations on owning the only snake ever that has the ability to reason and have emotions. Candycanes, rainbows and sunshine, cowboy.
Ignorance is bliss.

No. I just find it sad you cannot find behavior funny and if someone does someone has to point out how stupid they are for assuming said behavior was ever funny. Takes the fun and joy out of the hobby.

who said anything about holding him up, my bathroom has one, my bathroom also has a tub. to get to the tub I have to pass two mirrors. How is that holding him up to it? Did you just manufacture words that wernt there? Or was it all assumption.

Re: Funny things my snakes do
Again, if you want to come up with evidence for your statements please do so in the appropriate thread, Ladybug. I tried to get anyone to do so and none of you were able. Your conjecture in blue above is just as unfounded as anyone's.
I also failed to find anywhere the OP said he held a mirror up to his snake to freak it out. So stop creating drama where there is none, stop exaggerating for your effect, and stop touting your opinions as if they were anything else.
As we came to this conclusion before, who cares if someone thinks their reptile has emotions? It hurts no one so just leave it be, especially as you have no proof either.

You can find behaviour amusing without attributing it to things that aren't true. My pets do plenty of things that are amusing, but that doesn't mean I make up reasons for them doing it.

Re: Funny things my snakes do
its called deductive reasoning.
He is seeing himself long enough to "slither to you like a bat out of hell if he sees "mirror boa". <-- those are your words by the way
so I can infer that you are pausing long enough so he can see himself. When and IF I have to bring my boa into my bathroom WITH a mirror she never freaks because I make sure she cant see herself.
I am seriously not picking a fight with you. I really dont care what you do or think. but dont pass on wrong info to someone who may read it and think he can get a snake and they will be best friends,
