Question about Kenyan sand boa humidity box

Thank you for the quick and prompt reply. For the time being do you know if I would be able to use either cypress mulch or plantation soil?

Whichever holds humidity. I dunno about plantation soil, but from a quick Google search, it seems cypress mulch will work fine.

I will use the plantation soil it doesn't seem to have any effects on the little guy. Also I read somewhere else I think it was yahoo questions (wish I saved the link) but the person posted that they had a snake die because it ingested a piece of cypress mulch so I wont be trying that. Also ive noticed that he is not burrowing in the sand just laying on top of the substrate on the warm side. Currently he does not have a hide but I am putting one in today. Is this normal? From what I've read they tend to always be burrowed.
