So over maybe the past 2 weeks or so my snakes belly has been becoming more and more orange. Now I did a full substrate change about 2 weeks ago and since then is when I started to notice this happening, so my first thought is that maybe the reddy orange reptibark was dying his scales a different colour. So once I came up with that idea I have let him sit in some water for 20 mins or so to see if the colour changed at all and no luck on top of that I couldn’t find anyone else mentioning anything like that on the internet at all. So this leads me to my next idea which is that it could be scale rot and I’m hoping from the picture I have provided that someone could let me know if that is the case.
I have him in an aquarium with plywood top on it, I spray it once a day and this raises the humidity up to about 75%, usually by the time I get home from school it has dropped itself down to about 62%, I have a thermostat and it keeps my hot side at 89 and my cool side usually in the ranges of 78-80,
I have investigate into looking at some pictures of burns and scale rot and his case does not really look similar to the other cases people have brought up on forums. I have noticed my snake has not shed since the august 13th and has not eaten for what would have been 4 weeks yesterday.
Any help with what is going on would be amazing and if someone does determine it to be scale rot can I please be also be informed of how to go about treating it.
Sounds like he is getting ready to shed . Eyes should start clouding any day now . What substrate are you using ? Be sure there is no cedar in it . My snakes bellies go a pink to orange shade usually a week or 2 before their eyes cloud . Since he last shed in August that would be my guess.
Well you nailed it.... I thought with the not eating, discolouraction and no shed that it was something more serious then him going into shed. I mainly thought this because in the past I have gotten him to heat while in shed and hes never seemed to be this picky before.
Glad to hear it all went good . Also going off feed is not unusual this time of year either . Winter breeding season is coming so regular feeding patterns may stop now . 2 of mine have almost stopped feeding regularly . So if yours stops feeding don't get worried .
