Yes, Greg Maxwell states that you shouldn't buy from the internet or at the show. This is one of the first things he outlines as an important step in successful keeping and for a good reason.

He is guilty of categorizing here, keep in mind that it is very possible for you to find a reliable breeder online. The task is to ask questions to the seller and find out whether or not they are legitimate breeders.

As far as shows go, I wouldn't get one from a show. Find a local breeder (be very choosy) and establish a relationship with him/her. That's the absolute best way to go about it.

i agree it is possible to find good reputable breeders online

i would also meet one of those breeders at a show,to pick up a pre ordered snake

my last 4 snakes were picked up at reptile expo's in Germany

ALL my snakes were got via the internet and show pick ups (from established,reputable people)

that said,i would not just walk about a show and buy from just anyone,there are however a lot of great breeders who attend shows

I was asking around at expos about who produces the nicest Granites. Mike Curtain pointed me toward Pete Downing. I emailed Pete and we had already come to a deal before I met him early at the following expo.
