I know most snakes will eat something that is 2x their size. I [I]heard[I] that carpets can and will consume much larger prey. I would weigh your snake then see if its large enough to consume a large rat.

I've also heard from folks that feeding several times throughout the week is bad for the snakes digestive system. I feed all my kids 1.5-2x their size.

Or you can just look in your want ads and just loom for a cheap chest freezer an stock up. Order online bulk or go to expos and buy bulk.
