A lot of carpet now comes in tiles, which are easy to replace if stained (or burned in this case). Down side? High traffic areas don't stay glued down as well. Glad everything turned out ok, and don't beat yourself up. Learn from it, be grateful it ended the way it did, and you'll never do it again.
