no that's not quite right. If this snakes parents were 1 normal and 1 pastel then the babies would "look" (homo) Normal but carry the gene (het) for pastel.

So your right that if this snake was normal het pastel, and bred to a normal, you would not get pastels. But if you breed that same snake to a pastel, you would get normals and pastels.

The pastel mutation is a co-dom gene so there is no such thing as a het pastel. When you breed a pastel to a normal, the ratio for the clutch should be 50% pastels and 50% normals. The normal looking offspring are nothing more than just normals. The only way you got het anything is when a recessive mutation is involved.

You're right about if bred to a normal you'll only get normals and if bred to a pastel you'll get 50/50 pastel and normals. You just threw me off with the het pastel.

Dang, beat me to it. No such thing as a het pastel.

As for the genetics of the OP's animal, looks totally normal to me, but who knows.
