Snake Awareness Day -May 14

Monday, May 14 has been designated Snake Awareness Day! For all you Facebookies, please visit, like and share the Snake Awareness Day for your area (and Illinois too, please)! If you still cannot find your state, let me know and I will get it added.

Snake Awareness Day has been created as a day to educate and share our passion for snakes with the public. Schools, libraries, malls, social groups, parties, all are examples of opportunities we have to let the public know how awesome these creatures are, and maybe, just maybe we can avoid any more ridiculous bans!

I know when I mentioned this in the past, a number of you let us know what you're already doing to increase awareness. You're all amazing! Now, we can all band together on one day for the future of our hobby.

I think this is great, and I really hope it will take off. Yesterday I started the Snake Awareness Day - Oregon Facebook page (linked in my signature), and my local herp group is working on gathering ideas for what we can do within our own community. I really hope this takes off. Please spread the word!

Yes you can! Please do! Visit SnakeAwarenessDay for details on how to do it. It has to be done front a PC though. You can't do it from a Smartphone. If you have any trouble, shoot me a message on the Illinois page (The one with the pretty red Rainbow Boa) and I'll help you.

You should make the Nebraska page for me, it won't let me do it (or I can't figure it out) for some reason.

Maybe I'll walk around the creek with one of my guys and enjoy the sun for a bit. People always walking by, I'm sure would love to ask questions. They do when I catch a tiny little garter lol. I just don't want to deal with any bylaw officers or anything... is there any proof I can provide that its snake awareness day?? Lol, I can't wait! Caylan.s

We have plans to go to a few different schools, right now it's two but we're hoping to lock up two more and make a day of it. This is all contingent on whether WV passes the draconian bill and we're underground with our animals or not by then.

I remember you saying that in one of my other threads, Norm. That's great! How did you approach the schools with your proposal? How did you explain what you want to do?

My friend does this stuff pretty regularly and my wife knows a lot of teachers. I didn't do anything. LOL.

there is an ohio one.. i just couldnt find it the other day. i was looking forward to creating a page.
