Do you use editing software, if so what ?
This kind of pertains to photography so here goes. I know we all love to take pics of our snakes, lizards and pets alike, but who does video as well. I’m looking at trying my hand at editing my videos and was wondering what you guys/gals use. I’m not exactly tech savvy so I’m looking for good, free, or reasonably cheap software to start with. Any thoughts? Thx

I use Adobe Premire elements 7 for photo and video, Photoshop Studio 5, Photoshop 3, and 3 others that I can't think of right now...

I use Adobe After Effects CS5 (amazing!) and Sony Vegas Pro 10 for my VFX stuff. And Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for photos. I use 3DS Max 2012 and Realflow 2012 for 3D work too but you're not really referring to that are you? For beginner free stuff I would suggest Aviary or Gimp.

I bought CS3 several years ago as a freshman, I'm gonna have to make sure I pick up the latest before I graduate though.
For 3d work I've been using sketchup a lot, but I've got Rhino if I want some more advanced features as well as super high quality modeling.

Nope... 95% of the stuff i do is unedited and "as is". The extent of my editing is cropping and exposure controls in my photographic work.

Re: Do you use editing software, if so what ?
I rarely use editing software for photos I post here, but for many of the events I attend I'll go through and edit a large number of the photos there. HDR is something I'm becoming quite good at making the photos look really lifelike without the over done cartoony look.

Re: Do you use editing software, if so what ?
Thx for the replies guys, but I'm not tying to edit photos, I'm trying to edit videos I'm making. I recorded Ven eating the other day but from start to finish its 17 some minutes that I'm trying to shorten.

Depending on if you have a Mac or HP you should have Windows Movie Maker or iMovie on there when you buy it. Those allow you to do simple editing things.

My computers a bit old(07) so I'm not sure if I would have it but I'll check. Thx

It'll have it unless someone deleted it.

Re: Do you use editing software, if so what ?
So I looked around and it seems that it was removed when my friend 'cleaned' up and removed unnecessary, space occupying programs. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But thx guys.

Re: Do you use editing software, if so what ?
Of course the straight up answer would be Photoshop but as of late, I have been using a couple of other image software for my advantage. GIMP is a good alternative to PS just because it is free and pretty much does the exact same things.
But for a more freestyle type of editing, I use ImageJ which is an editing software based on Java. So, it is not your straight up software you could work with but rather something you could use to gain access to very specific pixels in a picture.

Re: Do you use editing software, if so what ?
I am a photography major, graduating this year! I am starting a photo business right now, whoo! Anyways, what I use is Photoshop/CS5. I also use Lightroom at my internship, however I have been using the trial of Aperture on my computer.
I used to use only photoshop but both aperture and lightroom have awesome one-click editing options that make life SO EASY.

Re: Do you use editing software, if so what ?
After years of photoshop, ive since swapped over to GIMP
It's easier, a bit more intuitive IMO, and its FREE
imovie is really easy, but windows movie maker has always been a huge pain for me, I just use Wax, it's the best free video editing by far, my friend (a film major) swears by it, though he usually uses final cut if on campus
