new blue tongue skink
i have a new blue tongue skink, she is a wonderfull reptile, iv eyed her for a month in the new pet smart location near my home. i finally done my research and purchased her. her name is solo.
wondering if anyone else has experience picking up a new blue tongue.
at the store she was usually out around, not hidding and the workers could handle her a bit, she always hisses they said but never bits or runs, untill she is picked up she stops hissing.
but i gets her home and all she does is hide in her cave, i left her alone for two three days, then disided to start little bits of interaction for they need interaction to bond to thier owner, so says care sheets and other info.
she does not come out of her hide when i am home, but her food is being eatten so shes out when im at work, so day one of interaction i lift the hide, she hisses a bit, i offer food on a spoon, she eats some for a while, but backs awaay and hisses at my attemp to pet her.
day two of interaction, i am able to pet her, but still hisses and well back off after a few seconds, willing to come to the spoon to eat and actually came over to lick my hand a few times, or ast me i should say.
i do not like to lift her hide away from her, but she well not come out much, and i have to interact or she well just end up hidding all the time and not interactiong, resulting in a skink that hates interaction.
anyone have any info, advice or storries about blue tongues, i like hearing from people.
oh ya, i have had some people ask me for photos of my reptiles, but i yet to know how to upload them.

Re: new blue tongue skink
heres an idea for you,
you could set up a webcam in her tank that records to hard drive, that way you can see when she comes out and try to interact with her at the times that she comes out.
(this is gunna sound abit silly) you could also place a sock over your hand to let your sent get on it, then put the sock into her enclosure so that she gets used to your scent in a gradual process and in her own time, place the sock in the middle of her enclosure and never in 1 of her hides.
its really just a game of patience and will power, 1 of them has to give up at some point, just dont make it urs

Not silly at all, I have used tee shirts that I wore for a day to do this same thing.

Re: new blue tongue skink
the scent thing makes sence, i got up this morning and she was out basking, i approched asnd she actaully stayed out for 5 min or so. i later lifted the hide and fed her with spoon with no hissing at all, excenpt for when i pet her, still hisses. but its a working proccess.
anyone know the best basking temp for her, i had a 100 watt bulb that brought the temp, at ground level underniether the light at 89f, i switched to a 150 watt that brought it too 101f, i have her rock cave hide right under the basking light to work as a hide and basking rock, wondering if 101f temp at gound leveel in front of her hide is too much, she seems to like it all the same.
