I take it their rule has little to do with the actual type of snake & more concern as to its size?
Bring home an 8ft Beautysnake or Indigo & see how they like that Vs a Sandboa or a Childrens Python

Maybe try to educate them more about the various types of snakes & explain that all Boids do not get excessively large etc. & many saty very small & docile.
A BRB is a very reasonable choice & will stay smaller & less "aggressive" than many Colubrids etc. Mark
