Cave Spiders!!

taillesswhipscorpion.jpgOk, I couldn't figure out where this thread would best fit, but I want to share my newest acquisitions with everybody. I got two cave spiders (tailless whip scorpions) at Hamburg this past weekend, and they are awesome. They look like alien life forms, and are quite docile and handleable. They are actually neither spiders nor scorpions, but are their own genus of arachnid- Amblypigidae. I first saw one in the Harry Potter movies, when an evil spell was cast on it. When I found out they were actually real creatures, I knew I had to have one. They are soo amazing, and quite easy to care for. Just give them a vertically-oriented cage and some stuff to climb on and keep them moist and cool (68-75 degrees).

Re: Cave Spiders!!

Yeah they each eat like 2-3 small crickets a week. They are harmless- no stinger, no poison. I guess they can pinch, but their pincers are weak so it wouldn't really hurt. I love them!

Re: Cave Spiders!!

I got them at the Hamburg show. There was a stand Creatures of the Night, that was selling them. They were only $10 each and their little cage was $15. They need a vertical cage, because they live in caves and climb and they like cooler temps, so they can be put anywhere in the house pretty much. You can get them online from different breeders too, if you do a Google search for tailless whip scorpions.
