What kind of snake is this?

The wife and I were bagging up leaves and we found this handsome little baby. Can anyone tell me what kind of snake it is?

Looks like a Dekay’s brown snake or red belly snake. Cool find.

Thanks. I figured he was harmless because he didn’t try to bite me, LOL! He was so tiny that I assumed he was just a baby.

Those species tend to stay small as adults, too. It could be full grown.

Definitely a Dekay's and I agree it's an adult. They only get up to 18 inches long max.

Thanks! I was hoping as much. He has a good home in my yard now, having been saved from the Hell of living in a bag of leaves until the city comes by to mulch them up!
