Also, if you do want to use shelving for part of your room, I strongly recommend that you keep an eye on Craigslist offerings. CHeck out the furniture, materials, general and especially the free sections. You'd be surprise to see what you can get for free.

Yes you are absolutely right about that, I've gotten a ton of amazing deals on Craigslist, especially for enclosures. Fortunately we live next to a Goodwill Depot, it's basically a massive Goodwill inside a warehouse with a bunch of stuff mixed in bins, but they also can fit a bunch of furniture.
