This is a great reason for NOT offering a varied diet for certain species. Carpet pythons, ball pythons, and western hognose are some commonly kept species that tend to develop affinities for certain prey items when offered, called prey imprinting, and what they want isn't always the best or most convenient choice. I'm sure it happens in lots of other species as well, but those are the very common ones. I've had some honduran milksnakes and corn snakes do it as well. Boas rarely do this, though, and considering that boas don't fare well with metabolising fat properly, the odd quail or rabbit could in my opinion may be beneficial.
