Very cool. Is this a relative of the Corallus or the Epicrates boas? It doesn't look like any type of boa constrictor.

It's a member of the Corallus genus. I love hearing stories like this, imagine the thrill of such a discovery!

I read this on USARK. this is so cool! gives me hope that humans haven't entirely destroyed the eco systems everywhere.

One tiny spot on the planet doesn't equal ecosystem. If you read on the redlist, you'll read this species is about to go extinct due to human expansion... not that we don't have bigger problems than a boa species in SA, but it's sad we lose species of whom we understand little and will never have a chance to understand at all... :C

They also found a new death adder species. ... yay.... The person highly allergic to all animal venom exposure so far would much prefer the boa. Personally I think the environment is a lost cause in many places and the endangered species manageable in captivity should be brought into captive breeding programs and if suitable eventually pet placement to preserve them instead of the tagging and release to try to keep the wild population going. Some animals that are highly endangered would actually tame quite easily and be fairly simple to keep but they continue to try to save them in an environment that can't possibly last and because they are endangered you can't get any if you have the desire to start a breeding program. I really should have gone into biology. It doesn't really matter what field I ended up in. It all would have gone better than attempts at veterinary and then finding I hate pet owner interaction and only seeing animals in need of medical care various computer degrees.
