I have used all the other forums just about and www.ssnakess.com is simply the best. I still find myself backing up what I say more than I need to since I'm still used to having my throat jumped down but I never experience that here. Thanks Jeff and thanks to all the great members here.

I've posted a couple questions there.... and I admit they aren't very helpful. ^^

I haven't even thought about going back after I joined here!

Yes, yes, yes, I agree...

Well, I only joined yesterday, and I completely agree - I was scared to ask questions in some of the forums 'over there', and always felt like I had to write reams of explanations and justification to head off stupid misunderstandings.

I know that writing can't always portray the author's true emotion, but slamming people before checking what they mean, and pulling someone's grammar and spelling to pieces instead of addressing what they asked, is just plain ignorant. Added to that is the complete lack of comprehension that there are people from (sarcastically whispers in fear) 'foreign countries' for whom English is a second language, and who deserve respect for writing a darn sight better english that I can write Dutch or French or German, etc!!!

Oh dear, sorry chaps and chapesses, my first post on ssnakess was a rant...

I've been 'over there' too long, I need to chill out, like this community... breath in... breath ouuuuttt...

yeah.

Cheers,
Brig.

Could someone bring me up to speed... what is the "other forum"? I came to this place on the recommendation of a local reptile breeder.

You can PM me if you dont want to post it in public

Thanks!

The "other forum" everyone is referring to, is the king-snake "franchise" of forums...you can't actually type the name out because it gets "starred out".

I never liked the kingsnake forums, never bothered to read them or post on them, the format is just too painful to bother with (specially on dialup) then I found sSnakeSs.com and forgot that the kingsnake forums existed.

I agree with everybody here, this site rox. I love the chat (more people should go there from time to time, really lets you get to know the other members, like me )
I have too be honest (sp?) and say that i still read the King bearded dragon forum. :jawdrop: yes indeed, i do that.
But anyway, this is the best site i have ever seen

Andrea, being from the south USA myself (just a state away, remember??), I know how you feel. I don't think the "other" forum that you are refering to is all that bad, in fact I like it. I just stay out of all of the drinking and sexual discussions. I have had my share of fights over there, but it all shakes out in the end.

I don't like colubrids myself, but I certianly don't put anyone else down for liking or keeping them. To each their own, I say.
you are right, jason, i guess it isnt THAT bad, i just let some personal things that happened off the boards get in my way of enjoyment over there. there are a few good people that really care. they do waste way too much time talking about things that are inappropriate and then trying to outshout each other violently to cover it up.
kingsnake one is just a bore.

Folks,

I have posted on several of the "other forums". Some of them have been pretty good, however more than one or two have been Horrible. I wont blame it on the management just yet, but will say that the other forums spoken of tend to attract people that like to show their wealth and stature through what they keep reptile wise, and tend to have a "players club" mentality, wherein only people that can buy and produce popular things are given respect.

Example:

a) People that post tons of pics every other day, to get positive feedback from folks on forum.

b)Forum cliques, not necessarily created to answer newcomers
questions but to pat each other on the back and ohh and ahh
over their latest PURCHASE, or reproductive effort.

c)Trolls galore, whose main purpose is just to argue and fight and discredit individuals for whatever personal reasons they may have. Long winded system of evicting same.

d) Drinking, occasional sexual innuendos or talks on sex, and boasts about occupations.

Thank you Jeff ******** for creating a site that lacks most of the above, whose members treat each other as important, regardless of their knowledge level or income. I guess its true about Canadians, they are truly pretty cool.

Again thanks,

Fred Albury

couldnt have said it better myself, fred
another forum has led to more than one real life problem for me. and that is sad. some people have to use something that was initially set up to help others as a vehicle to assure themselves they are the people they wish they could be, to hurt others so they can receive the validation they do not get in the real world.
it is very sad.
i am glad i found this site.

Thanks guys!! I origionally did create the forums because us canadians really didnt have a place to call our own, but it has become a site for everyone! We have members now from as far as South Africa, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan!! Lets not forget our sister country to the south of us! I think that the hobby should be enjoyed by everyone equally wether they own 1 corn snake or 200 animals! Heck, its the people who are just getting into it are the future of the hobby and i know how excited i was when i got my first ball python!! it was a regular but i wanted to show it off to anyone and everyone!! LOL!! But really the people who need to take credit are you guys! Seriously... Our members combined with the atmosphere here just mesh so well together and its great!! Thank you guys!! Were all in this together and we ALL deserve equal credit!
