Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
Wow, that is interesting. My guess would be that you had scar tissue built up in there that was inhibiting movement that otherwise would have been there. There is some repair and regeneration that can occur in peripheral nervous system tissue (anythign not the brain or spine). I think that even though the tendon was largely destroyed, some of the tissue repaired enough to allow minor movement, but it was inhibited by stiff scar tissue build-up. When you slammed your hand in the car door, you might have broken some of the scar tissue, loosening things up and allowing movement again.
Just an idea.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
Sounds interesting.
Quick note, as of this morning I have almost 160 degrees of movement, I can bend it to about 1-2CM away from the base of the finger without assistance from the other fingers.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
My money's on a combination of the scar tissue and the actual amazing nature of the human body.
Human children can completely regenerate digits to an age of about 3-5 years (As per my pediatrician uncle)...since you were about 7 when the damage occurred, I'd say that the regeneration of a tendon or ligament is reasonable, since the rest of the finger was actually there.
And if the bones healed up funky with lots of scar tissue in the surrounding soft tissue, it could have impaired movement. Introduce some blunt force trauma, and it breaks up some of the stuff, and VOILA!! Full mobility! That's my guess. Still freakin' incredible though!
Or you could be a zombie.

Oh yeah totally got my zombie vote as well. Very cool that zombies can own and take care of reptiles! I would think they would be chowing down on the food...if not the reptiles themselves. Yay for self control!!

AMC has a series out called "Walking Dead' or something like that. Its about zombie apocalypse and it showed in one scene a guy on horseback being attacked. Guy got away...horse wasn't so lucky. Zombies got a belly full of horse though.

Re: Backyard hillbilly car door miracle.
i think theres a mixture of reasons, this is my guess (in a basic summary)
1.) finger gets ripped off
2.) finger gets reattatched
3.) reguvination and dead tissue builds up
4.) finger gets trapped in the door and loosens of the dead tissue build up and finally makes you and your brain move the finger through the fast increase in adrenalin
5.) your finger continues to heal throughout the day and possibly through the night and gives you full usage back with full realization of movement in said finger.
