It was sold to me as a Guyana, but I think it might be a Surinam...What do you think?

As Edwin pointed out. Saddles really are not a marker for Suri or Guyana. The way it usually works in the hobby (not in the wild) is people call the more pinkish animals Suri's and the more purplish Guyanans. As of late there seems to be a preferance for surinames, as such they tend to sell for a bit more. If it was sold to you as a Guyanan I would stick with that assessment rather than second guess it. Perhaps he knew it's origin, where as you do not. In reality they are the same thing.

No, but I was going to buy his 03 basin-type surinam that I'm sure you're probably refering to. This one is much cleaner and lighter than that one. Pics do no justice to this snake. Thanks for the responses and comments.

Yes that is the one i sold to paul cb surinam did you see it in person what a screamer.This one in the picture does look alot like it that's why i ask.

this is an 04 his is an 03. I think he sold it. Check out a couple of my other surinams in my gallery. Unrelated Partial stripe CBB Surinams, both are 10x nicer in person. The Female is from BigDan's Reverse striper litter, the male is from breeder in quebec, I can't remember his name. I got it at Fall 03 PCPC show.

There is no way to tell the difference by appearance as they are the exact same snakes just shipped out from a different country.

My rescue boa is supposed to be a wild caught suri but she is so much darker than any pic of a suri that I ever saw. She has alot of pink on the sides but she is so damned dark. It was one of those friend of a friend of a friend kind of transactions so I never met the guy who had her. Could some suri imports be that dark or is it likely an intergrade?

I have a 6 1/2 ft Female that is super dark too, with high pink on her sides. It's definately a surinam.
The female striper I got from big dan's reverse striper litter, it's mother was as dark as can be too, but the babies were all light. I find all of my Surinams change darkness according to hunger, mood, etc. Sort of like a mood ring.

Thanks Humphrey, I have really been wondering about that. Your 6 1/2 footer sounds alot like mine.
Doyou have a pic of her? I don't remember seeing that you had posted a pic. I have noticed mine lighten alittle when she is out and moving around the room a bit nothing really dramatic. She was so dark when I brought her home that I really was confused. Probably prolonged stress or something since she wasn't from a happy home.

Same story with mine. After I finally got her to eat after trying everything for a month, she was noticably lighter and alot more active. Alot more fiesty and aggressive. It's a good thing though, back to her regular surinam-self.

They are the same snake, so there is no way of telling which place they were exported from. It was believed by some that pink snakes were Suris and Guyanas were the purplish kinds, but truth is that both 'types' come out of both places. If you look at a map it's the same chunk of land, the only difference is a man-made border that the snakes don't understand. They are virtually indistinguishable. The only reason Surinames are more pricey, is that it is apparently more expensive to export from Suriname than it is Guyana.

I looked up both Guyana and Surinam (been a few years since geography class). Seeing that the two countries are neighbours I guess that Linds is probably about the best source of info on this topic since she sure seems to be right on the money here.
I guess that it would be totally impossible to tell 100% where a boa came from in this instance unless you plucked it off a tree yourself lol. Not that it would make much difference except in price as she stated.
