If you don't appreciate someone asking you a certain question , then simply explain that you do not wish to answer, OR just don't respond. There is no need to make such a monumental issue out of it.

If I'm curious I usually ask if it's ok to ask how much some one paid. If I got a special deal and some one asks me, I might say I received a special deal for favours and cant tell or something similar.
