Hmm, looks like I wasn't wrong. What the hell do I know? You all have obviously done many reptile studies and have written many knowledgeable books making you a recognized member of the vast reptile community.

Re: Scared for my boa
I have beardies.
Mine was 127º 30 minutes ago when I did my temp check on everyone.
If its too hot they move but after a meal they will bask for a couple hours. I let my setup night drop to about 75º. 14 hrs day cycle summer 12 in winter. Night drop in the summer is normaly 80-85º. So yeah I know beardies too

Exactly. And along that line, I know people who give boas a much higher basking spot, too. To achieve this, they have a much larger enclosure with lots of hides and crevaces, and they still have a great cool spot. Again, no problems there. They eat, they bask in the very high basking spot for a short period of time, then they move.

Movement is always excercise and good for the snake.

Do you NOT see the gender problem? It's a WOMAN you're referring too.
By the way, what does the age of a bearded dragon have to do with the temperature of it's basking spot?
|
I'm not going to argue but I remember reading caresheets when I was interested in beardies saying the babies basking spot should be warmer.
Like I said I won't post anything I don't know 100% anymore, read the other posts clarifying this.

Was more of a sarcastic remark saying you're obviously the professional at thermodynamics. But yes everything is straightened out and I do not wish to argue.

Re: Scared for my boa
Wow.
I hate to be a downer, but this entire thread is made of fail.
First and most important, it's got bad medical advice. NEVER assume or even suggest IBD without massive cause...because it's often bad guesswork that can lead to horribly incorrect and irreversible actions. How do I know? I received a single MISdiagnosis of it once, and had to go to specialists who proved that analysis to be 100% wrong. I ended up spending thousands of dollars with two specialists to clear 15 snakes (I tested widely to be sure), every single one of which came back negative/all clear...all on a flight of misdiagnosed fancy. IBD is a HORRIBLE thing to even SUGGEST based on a short verbal description, and anyone doing so should be ashamed.
Second and more minor, a help thread was allowed to degenerate into an argument complete with memes and mocking rather than helping the keeper in need. Someone was challenged on supporting conditions. Note the difference, move it to another thread if needed, but drop it from the main topic and move on. Having a public side flareup does the forum no favors with new readers who might otherwise be potential members.
Sorry for the lecture, but I've seen this forum do much better too often to not say something.
Back on topic...Dinosaur, I'm terribly sorry to hear your female is acting oddly...but there are many, many other causes than the I-word, including chemicals, trauma, and bad food. Unfortunately, the only solution is time under further observation, with appropriate vet tests to rule out specific causes based on those observations.
In the meantime, I would keep her quarantined from your male, just in case it is something communicable that has not yet transmitted. This goes beyond separate housing, and means handle her last and disinfect afterward.
Regardless, I would be cautious of ever boarding in a pet shop, simply because there is always risk. You have to trust not only them, but every customer who comes in and may bring a sick animal. From now on let your pets stay with a friend, and either toss a few bucks their way to take them to lunch/dinner as thanks.
I wish you the best of luck, and please keep us posted.

Good luck. I hope it's treatable and that you don't need to do anything harsh.

Ashamed ? Seriously? It's crappy personal attacks like this have caused your "minor" issues as of late. I suggested they look into it. First response to the video was that the snake was not behaving in this manor. It would have been a fail on my part to not inform the op of it and to look for it considering they have other snakes. Sorry you had your bad luck but nobody here diagnosed anything. What if her snake had or has ibd? I doubt it does but if this were the case how many visits to that pet store would you want to have before they found out.
What did you add to the help? All you did is repeat everyone before you? You added nothing.
Get off the high horse. Don't attack members and stick to the issue and maybe the site will do better again. It sure has been over Christmas and I want it to stay.

Re: Scared for my boa
I got a new computer for christmas so I hooked up my logitec webcam to it and was able to do a video of her behavior.
Athena - YouTube
Also in the background you can see my water dragon set up (the giant green thing) and the set up for jerry rice (which is the shorter viv). Also I dont know why the video made everything flip.

Was she tested for IBD?
"Signs of infection in boas include central nervous system disorders such as paralysis, being unable to right itself when turned over, "star-gazing", inability to strike or constrict. Other signs include chronic regurgitation, extreme weight loss, respiratory infections, and dysecdysis due to the inability to control body movements enough to rub off the old skin. The disease is rapidly fatal in young and juvenile boas, typified by rapid onset of flaccid paralysis."

Re: Scared for my boa
She wouldn't be eating if she had IBD. As far as I know, one of the early signs is regurgitation and lack of feeding. I honestly don't know what could be wrong with her...poor girl. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this, and I hope you find answers.
