Red Tail escaped...need some help

Hi, Im new to the forums. Just yesterday my Red Tail pulled a houdini and escaped from his tank. I searched any possible spot but just cant find him im guessing maybe he went into the walls? someone told me to leave the air conditioners on in my house and that the walls would get too cold and hed come out looking for heat....i dont if this is true maybe someoen can confirm that. Hes about 3.5 feet long and hes very docile yet also very shy, he also just ate 3 small rats a couple days prior to this. If anyone has any tips for getting him out its greatly appreciated!

i have heard the air conditioning theory also the only thing is i dont know if that would make him come out or brumate. i would keep searching the house and lay out traps for him. make sure you check anywhere warm like under the fridge.

Remember to check places that seem to small for him. Snakes can get in anywhere they can get their head into, and the smaller it is, the more comfortable he'll be.

Hello and welcome! I look under washer and dryer i use to have a ball that no cage could hold. i would always find him under the washer or dryer. Check around anything that creates heat or any place dark or high up. Found a boa after three day sleeping on top of the book case once. Best of luck.

I was told by a breeder at one point that most boas will go to a high place and that whenever his boas escape, they are always somewhere up, obviously id check everywhere but i'm just saying be aware that snakes can get into some CRAZY PLACES!!! lol dont single anything out for the most part. good luck!

Re: Red Tail escaped...need some help

My friend Jonathon has a ball python that sometimes escapes. He has a space heater that he got just for the occasional escape. He uses it to heat a cooler (redundant huh?) until it is very, very hot. Then he puts it in the room he suspects its in, and turns the lights off and closes the door. The snake curls up in it every time, hasn't failed yet.

They can also get into the springs of couches and chairs.

Yes. and be very careful of fold out "hide a bed" couches, they can shear the snake in half if you fold it out while your snakie is inside it.

Tell your friend to just have a properly locking lid and it'll be easier.

Or a big rock.
I use a big rock.

Though I think i'd save money on big rocks if I just got more ball pythons and used them to hold down lids. They're on sale for $10 this week, I think I paid more than that for the paving stones I use to hold down lids.

Sorry, I had to move this, a half dozen threads all with the same subject is a wee bit out of hand.
