I always thought...

Jeff,
I thought lots of frogs are quite toxic to other animals. Even if their toxins don't hurt us, their skin secrets special stuff they need to live and keep their skin moist. I have serious doubts as to whether these secretions are good for anoles or not. I don't have any experience with frogs and anoles together though, so I can't say for sure of course. But I've heard you shouldn't mix species.
Not trying to be mean, just voicing an opinion!

Anyone else have any info or opinions on species mixing? I think it's a valid concern for beginner herpers as well as experienced ones and I'd be interested in hearing your input

I personally never mix species but some can be housed together relativelly well - as long as they have almost the same temperature and humidity requirements and will not be competing for food and the good hide spots etc...

As for the toxicity ... I do believe that some of these guys are just really toxic becase of what they eat in the wild .. either mentelas or darts are toxic due too eating lots of fire ants .. sorry - amphibians is really not my strong!

Dart Cage Companions...

I was looking into getting darts for a while (might still get some) and if memory serves me right, I believe that I read somewhere that day geckos do well in a dart frog terrarium...

Hmmmm

It's funny how this hobby works....

Jeff: "I just want a small 10 g...with a 1.1 of something in it"

1 year later......

Jeff: "hey...can I stack my 300 g tanks.. and does anybody need a few thousand tadpoles?....and I have a semi load of crickets coming in if anyone needs any.."

I agree with Dom about the mixing of species...

not a good idea to put 2 species in the same enclosure, even if their care requirements are very similar. There's several reasons for this, one species may feel like it's competing for food, or competing for the best hide spot, which wil cause stress, and usually with herps, stress comes in pretty heavy doses. You could also run the risk of contaminating species1 with a bacteria or parasite that it may not encounter in it's environment, but was contracted from species2.

I also have to agree with North, for me I started out with anoles (mostly to get the wife into the idea of having ectotherms around) now i've got the wife saying " I want a scarlet kingsnake!"- - - Keep in mind this is someone who a year ago wouldn't even hold my boa or ball.
