Tips needed for a Sunglow set up
Hi All,
Ok so I have put a payment down on a yearling Sunglow T+ girl, she’s about 3ft in length and I collect here next week.
At this stage I plan to house her in a 34L x 19D x 22H wooden viv which I’ll seal up (properly this time). I have read on various care sheets a lot of good information but when it comes to ‘how best to heat’ there are the obvious various options.
As this is my first Boa I wanted to ask how you guys have or would set up this viv?. Is there anything specific to the Boa that some of your tips would greatly improve its well-being, like shelves to increase floor space and for climbing etc?
As always your help and information is very much appreciated

Re: Tips needed for a Sunglow set up
I would use a radiant heat panel on a thermostat. And use beaches for climbing options as it makes them use more muscles.
I personally don't measure my humidity in any of my enclosures but one and I keep that one around 60%-70%. I keep my hot spot at 93°f and drop it to 87°f at night. My cool end is 78°f-82°f.

Not familiar with the term beaches when it comes to climbing options, what does this mean? I would google it but i'm pretty sure i would come up with a bunch of sand and salty water

in my opinion 34 inches by 19 inches is a bit small.

For a 3ft girl? I know she won't stay in there, maybe six months tops but I thought you were ok matching length for length with these....I might be wrong of course and if better a 4ft, then so be it

That size is just fine for a yearling. She is a central American so will stay smaller anyway and grow a little slower too.

Fine for now...plenty big actually. But I was assuming you'd keep the wooden viv for her for a couple years.

Re: Tips needed for a Sunglow set up
I have a wood cage that is 36x20x20 and I mounted a porcelain light socket on the ceiling and I put a 75w ceramic heat emitter in it and I get temps at 96 degrees directly under it for a hot spot and about 76 degrees on the cool side. I put an under cabinet 18 inch florescent light in there for my lighting. My ambient temps around the warm side stay in the mid 80's. Use a bulb guard to put around your heat emitter, they are easy to find in the UK, compared to the USA.

Re: Tips needed for a Sunglow set up
So I have to ask..why are RHPs seem to be harder to come by across the pond? Is it a supply issue or something else?
