We need a new heat lamp

We need a new heat lamp for the atrium for our spotted python, Exactly how many watts do we need to get to keep the hot side at a max of 85 degrees

There are far to many variables for us to tell you what wattage you need, ambient temperature, height of the tank, etc... It's pretty much trial and error or you could get a dimmer or thermostat to keep the temperature were you need it.

Depends on the size of the enlcosure, the distance of the bulb, the temperature of your house, etc. etc. Buy something higher wattage and put it on a thermostat, it will do what your worried about in the question for you.

Dimensions of the enclosure?

Temperature of the room it is in?

Even if she told you those, there is still too many other variables. Thermostat is the simple answer

The only other variable I can think of is placement of furniture. For example basking spot, hide placement...etc. I agree that a thermostat would be the best way to go.
